Eight years...it doesn't seem like eight years. I remembered when she died, like a lot of people, I thought it was a cruel rumor, but as I turned to CNN, the thought of it being a cruel rumor became tangible outcries of sadness and unparalleled confusion. Why take someone so young? And knowing all of the projects and music she had in front of her after August 25, 2001, it makes her death even harder to deal with, even after eight years have passed. We as people, especially young adults, can get caught up in the idea of immortality. We think that because of our lack of years on this earth, we are entitled to live an extended and fruitful life as long as we make the right decisions. But certain situations come along, sudden life changing experiences like death, and remind us of the fleeting existence called life. Yes, those reminders are needed, but still, why death? Are we that foolish and stubborn and forgetful for God to take such extenuating circumstances like the abrupt ceasing of life to make us realize that life is a blessing we need to be grateful of everyday? Those questions run through my mind as I remember and contemplate her death...
The only I can affirm is that Aaliyah had more work to do in Heaven than here on Earth. God needed her. God called. And as that old saying goes, "When God calls, you answer." R.I.P. Aaliyah.
